Encompassing over 3,950 acres, the Shiloh National Military Park, in southwestern Tennessee, contains over 90% of the historic battlefield...Located throughout the forest and fields are 150 commemorative monuments, 500 troop position markers and over 200 cannons.
Visitors have several choices in the way they navigate through the Shiloh Troop Movements. The first two provide commentary regarding all places of interest, monuments, regimental markers, and other signage found on the Shiloh battlefield:
- follow Maps By Time, maps depicting corps-level troop movements and positions on a day-by-day basis, by time, over the entire battlefield and in smaller locales, throughout the duration of the Battle of Shiloh.
- follow Maps By Unit, maps which follow a particular corps-level unit, a single unit, usually a regiment, on a day-by-day, sometimes hour-by-hour, basis, throughout the duration of the Battle of Shiloh.
- follow Animation, By Step for a stepwise (or automatic) animation of Troop Movement maps, with chronological captions, throughout the duration of the Battle of Shiloh; or follow Animation, Loop for a continuous animation of Troop Movement maps, with no captions, throughout the duration of the Battle of Shiloh.
Development of our Civil War website is in its initial stage.
Shiloh is our first battlefield, others will follow.
Information is added frequently.
