Additional Information:
U. S. Secretary of War John B. Floyd, from Virginia, resigns because, after the transfer of Major Robert Anderson's command from Fort Moultrie to Fort Sumter, U. S. President Buchanan declined "to withdraw the garrison from the harbor of Charleston altogether."
President Buchanan had requested John B. Floyd's resignation on December 23 after Floyd proposed the removal of Federal troops from Charleston, South Carolina.
